Influence of plastic fines content on the liquefaction susceptibility of sands: cyclic loading

Abstract The paper presents an experimental study on the effect of plastic fines content undrained behavior and liquefaction susceptibility sand-fines mixtures under cyclic loading. results triaxial tests conducted Hostun sand with varying amounts (0–20%) types (kaolin calcigel bentonite) are presented. specimens were prepared different initial densities using moist tamping method, consolidated at same isotropic effective stress 100 kPa subjected to deviatoric amplitudes. From observations, it was found that sand-clay 10% or 20% clay showed a lower resistance than pure sand. Furthermore, reduction in ratio resulting after twenty cycles larger for sand-kaolin sand-calcigel ones. Possible explanations provided.
